Imagine growing up as a beautiful, talented girl with a passion for music. So far so good, right?
Now imagine being this cute young woman, but also being by chance Beyonce’s younger sister. That can’t be easy.
What are you going to do?
- Dive into your physics homework, apply yourself, become an astronaut, and get as far away from that beautiful shadow your sister has cast over you.
- Embrace it, acknowledge the fact that you’ve got the entertainment bug inside of you (too), and get to work.
- Lock yourself in your room, listen to heavy metal music, occasionally shout out asking for food from your mom.
Solange took the brave path and chose option no. 2.
Starting her solo career with Motown inspired sounds and Femme Fatale attires didn’t really help in distinguishing her from her soulful older sister.
But then came her 3rd studio album “True”, and this is when I started becoming interested.
Fashion-forward quirky-looking ensembles escorted by quiet, almost indie-sounding tunes. Granted, the album isn’t consistent in quality, but it is fun, light, youthful, and most of all – it’s unique. The Beyonce-wannabe approach has been tossed out the window.
Please, have a taste!
